Wills

A Will that says exactly what you mean

Your Will is the foundation of your estate plan. It decides who inherits, who looks after your children and who you trust to put everything in order.

Why make a Will?

Without a valid Will, the law decides who inherits your estate, and the result is often not what people expect.

  • Choose exactly who inherits, and in what shares
  • Appoint guardians for children under 18
  • Provide for an unmarried partner, who has no automatic right to inherit
  • Make provision for stepchildren and blended families
  • Choose executors you trust to deal with your estate
  • Leave gifts to friends, godchildren or charity
  • Express your wishes for your funeral

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How often should I review my Will?

We suggest a review every three to five years, and always after a major life event such as marriage, divorce, a birth, a death in the family or a significant change in your finances.

Does getting married affect my Will?

Yes. In England and Wales, marriage or civil partnership normally revokes an existing Will unless it was made in contemplation of that marriage. It’s important to review your Will if you marry.

What does an executor do?

Your executors collect in your assets, pay any debts and taxes, and distribute your estate according to your Will. You can choose family members, friends or a professional.

Where will my Will be kept?

We can arrange secure storage of your original Will so that it’s safe and can be found when it’s needed. [Confirm your storage arrangement and any fee.]
